Soft Orchestra1.4Divide-down string ensemble
The technique
The top note stays on the key’s fifth while the harmony moves underneath it. That common tone is the whole device: the pad does the work and the right hand barely moves. What changes is what the note is. Over the i it is the fifth, plain. Over the VI it is the major seventh, and the same note has gone soft. Over the iv it is the ninth, and it is floating. One note, three colours, and you moved nothing.
It is one note, not three. It enters with the first chord and is tied through the second and into the third: no new attack anywhere, however much the chords move under it.
Over the iv, hold it and step down a tone to the chord’s root late, on beat three of the second bar. Let that note ring into the next chord, where it is the seventh.
Over the suspended V, enter on the key’s root two beats in and resolve it down a semitone to the raised seventh on beat three of the last bar.
Never play the key’s own seventh while the suspended V is sounding. It is the chord’s minor third, against the major third the suspension resolves to.
The chords
4 chords over 8 bars, in G minor.
| Degree | Chord | Notes | Bars | Under the figure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| i | Gm | G · Bb · D | 1–2 | ● |
| VI | Eb | Eb · G · Bb | 3–4 | ● |
| iv | Cm | C · Eb · G | 5–6 | ● |
| V | D | D · F# · A | 7–8 | ● |
The figure is played over these chords; supply them separately if your rig allows.
The rules
- Over V, never the 7th — the natural seventh is a minor third against the raised one the suspension resolves to.
The notes
8 bars in G minor. Each note is in force across the steps shown.

VOICE CONTROL
- UNISONOFF
Stacks every unused voice onto the first note held, so the timbre plays one note at a time
- MONOOFF
- DETUNE15%(0…100 %)· MIDI CC 92
Between voices when poly, between stacked voices under UNISON, between the two oscillators under MONO
- TIMBRE A VOICE COUNT8(0…8)
The counts always sum to eight, so setting this sets the other — TIMBRE B gets the rest

- DYNAMIC VOICE ALLOCATIONOFF
Its printed default. On, a busy timbre steals from the other and the count above stops holding

- MULTI IN B CHANNEL2
TIMBRE B listens here under MULTI MODE. Both default to 1, so this must differ or the two timbres double on one channel

- RECIEVE CCON
Defaults to OFF, so the box ignores CC until this is set. The manual's spelling
